Gonzales: No decision made to stop subsidy on natural gas

The government has made no decision to stop subsidy on the natural gas which Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission purchases from the National Gas Company.

Confirmation of this comes from Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales.

The House of Representatives was informed of this during Minister Gonzales response to a question posed on the subject by Opposition Member of Parliament for Couva South, Rudy Indarsingh, this afternoon.

In a supplemental question, MP Indarsinghwanted to know if electricity rates will be increased.

However, Minister Gonzales said this matter is one which falls under the Regulated Industries Commission.

The RIC on Thursday said it is awaiting outstanding information from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission before starting its rate review work.
