Girl Gives Newborn Baby to Stranger in Restaurant

A 14-year-old girl walked into a restaurant on Wednesday afternoon with a newborn baby, handed the infant to a customer, and left.

According to ABC 7, the entire exchange was captured on surveillance video at the El Patron restaurant in Jersey City.

Eyewitnesses said the teen mom walked up to the counter and claimed she found the infant girl before handing her to a Good Samaritan and running away.

Alease Scott and her boyfriend, Walter Cocca, were eating lunch at the restaurant when the teen approached them asking for help.

“I said, do you mind if I check the baby’s vitals? She readily handed the baby over to me, so my focus went right onto the baby,” Scott said ABC 7.

Police were immediately called, and luckily Scott is trained in CPR and first aid.

“Once I applied the oxygen mask to the baby, all of a sudden we heard the most beautiful cry and the baby started moving, she slightly opened up her eyes and then she closed her eyes, but the sweetest thing was when she got hungry, and she was trying to suckle on the oxygen mask, so we knew she was OK after that,” Scott explained.

Police were able to track down the teen mom, who is not facing charges at this point. Both mom and baby are doing well, and the infant will be put up for adoption.
