Gary calls for Police Commissioner to be given “time”

Former Police commissioner Gary Girrifith is calling for patience as Parliamentarians express their disappointment over the the failure of Acting Commissioner of Police, Erla Christopher to appear before yesterday’s Joint Select Committee Meeting.

Christopher failed to appear at a National Security JSC yesterday citing a need to attend to urgent matters of national security as the reason.

Former PSC member, Martin George told News Power Now that this is not good enough.

However, Griffith was more understanding as he called for Mrs Christopher to be given time before persons rush to judgement.

Griffith noted also that part of the assessment for the position of Commissioner included case scenarios surrounding interaction with Government stakeholders to ensure that the applicant for the position understood the role of Police Commissioner.

Griffith claimed that Christopher was not determined to be a main candidate for the post in previous assessments.

He suggested that therefore, despite being the top applicant this time around, Mrs Christopher may take some time to get accustomed to the role and its requirements.
