Freetown Collective’s immersive musical set and ready for Sound Forge this weekend

Get ready for family-friendly experience like no other, when Freetown Collective stages its Carnival event, Welcome to Freetown: Come as your Modern Carnival Character, at Sound Forge, Christopher Samuel Drive, Mucurapo this Sunday, 12th February.

It’s intended to be an immersive musical, family-friendly experience packed with local performances.
There will be an interactive village, merchandise and food on sale along with games for children and other forms of entertainment.

Frontman Muhammad Muwakil said, “We believe that there’s so much room within the carnival for things other than just straight fete – come in, stand up, look at artists, buy some food, buy some drinks, have a good time. So we want to create a family-friendly environment, and the environment where we can come and do many different things and not just a fete.”
The band, known for its unique fusion of genres and stirring performances, will be joined by New York-based DJ GabSoul and special guest artists Jimmy October, Annalie Prime, Mical Teja, and Coutain.

Patrons are invited to dress as a modern version of their Carnival character, referencing an online personality quiz whose results indicate which Carnival character their personality best aligns with, and which was developed in conjunction with the event’s producer, Mark Made Group, a media release said.

Muwakil said in the release, “Beyond mainstream Carnival, there is a spirit that calls to kinship, friendship, tribe, intimacy, and spiritual connectivity – without this spirit there is no mas.”

The event will also include an art wall created in partnership with The Colour Shop and will have activations and giveaways from Sunshine Snacks, Creamery Ice Cream, Angostura Chill, Farm & Function and Brydens.

For this Carnival season Freetown Collective released Mas and Mighty People which has been getting positive public reviews.

Showtime is 5:30pm pm on February 12. Tickets are online and at malls.
