Free Seedlings Handed Out In Central Trinidad

Members of the public are now in possession of seedlings which were distributed by the group Sure Foundation on Sunday.

Twelve thousand, five hundred seedlings were distributed to members.

The initiative was staged on Munroe Road, Cunupia in the vicinity of the Hindu temple when motorists and passersby were invited to take home packets of seedlings free of charge.

Economist of the University of the West Indies at St Augustine, Dr Roger Hosein, who is a past executive member of the Sure Foundation, said it was all aimed to boost national food production, reduce the importation of food, and lessen the emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Dr Hosein said to date the Sure Foundation has distributed more than one point five million seedlings which will go a long way to decreasing the nation’s food important bill of seven hundred million dollars each year,”.

Dr Hosein said Sure Foundation and the Chaguanas West constituency hopes to rebuild a subculture of agriculture in Trinidad and Tobago especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event also got the support of Chaguanas West Constituency Member of Parliament, Dinesh Rambally.
