Four homes gutted after Chinese Lantern reportedly sparks fire on Quarry Street, POS

Twenty people have been left homeless after four homes and two cars were reportedly destroyed during a New Year’s fire on Quarry Street, Port of Spain overnight.

One woman is said to have sustained minor injuries while escaping her home and had to be treated at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The incident, which occurred mere moments after midnight, also knocked out the electricity supply to the area.

Appliances from the Wrightson Road Headquarters, the Belmont fire station, and the Four Roads fire station responded, under the supervision of divisional FSO Stewart.

Fire officials are to return to the scene today and determine the exact cause of the blaze, but it is believed to have been sparked by a Chinese Lantern.
