Four charged with possession of firearm and ammo after road traffic accident

 Four men ages 18 to 23, are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, after they were charged with Possession of Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition.

According to police reports, around 4.30pm on Wednesday 19th April, 2023, Cpl Linton, PC Wolfe and PC Baksh responded to the report of a road traffic accident at Audrey Jeffers Highway, in the vicinity of the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The officers found One Smith and Wesson pistol and 14 rounds 40. cal ammunition, in the crashed vehicle, and three of the occupants, who all reside in Diego Martin, were detained at the scene.

A fourth occupant, the alleged driver of the vehicle, a resident of the United States, was subsequently detained at Piarco International Airport while awaiting a departure flight.

Officers conducted investigations, then charged the four suspects with Possession of Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle was charged with Dangerous Driving and was issued with two Fixed Penalty Notices for Breach of Traffic Lights and Improper Overtaking on the left.

Investigations were coordinated by Insp Basant, Insp Grant and spearheaded by Sgt Mc Kain, with legal guidance from Sgt Jeanville and tactical support from Cpl Hunte and officers from the Western Division Task Force.
