Former Sports Minister says athletes suffering during pandemic and gov’t to blame

Former Sport Minister Anil Roberts has noted the impact of the Government’s handling of the pandemic on sport.

Senator Roberts believes that athletes have been suffering during the pandemic and it’s all the Government’s fault.
He said due to the Covid Pandemic rules persons are unable to partake in sport, however some sports are given preferential treatment.

Senator Roberts stated yesterday that the Olympic Games are 89 days away and T&T’s Olympic athletes are at a disadvantage.

He said a month ago the President of Cricket Asim Basrath wrote to the Health Minister and the CMO asking for national cricket competitions to proceed however that request was denied.

However he claimed, a basketball tournament was allowed by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh.
