Former Footballer among 2 shot dead by police after armed robbery

Former national defender Akeem ‘Battery’ Benjamin passed away on Wednesday April 6th after shootout with police officers.

Benjamin represented local powerhouses such as W. Connection, Central Fc and most recently San Juan Jabloteh – where he won several domestic titles.

According to reports Benjamin along with another gunman were pronounced dead, while one held after a robbery in San Juan.

Reports further state the gunmen stormed the compound of Favorite Foods Ltd, Boundary Road, San Juan at around 1.30 pm.

A report was made and officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force went to the area and called on the bandits to surrender.

The bandits reportedly shot at the officers who returned fire hitting Benjamin and the other gunman.

Officers also seized two guns used by the bandits.
