Former boxer Claude Noel has passed away

Trinidad and Tobago’s former professional boxer, Claude Noel, has died at the age of 74.

He passed away at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Sunday.
However, the cause of death is not immediately known.

Noel, who hailed from Tobago, was the subject of concern last month, when a video went viral on social media of him dragging on the floor and screaming for help.

His relatives responded, however, saying the video was taken by Noel’s caregiver one year ago at his Malabar home, to send to his wife and family abroad.

Noel became the country’s first lightweight world titleholder when he defeated Mexican El Gato Gonzales in 1981.

A year later, he received the Chaconia Gold Medal and the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago was named after him.
