Football match abandoned after hearse drives onto field mid-game

A football match in the UK was called off in chaos after a funeral hearse was driven onto the pitch.

The friendly between lower league sides Dunston and Gateshead was abandoned at half-time amid extraordinary scenes which stunned watching supporters.

Footage posted on social media showed the hearse being driven in circles in the centre of the pitch.

The offender, who was masked, then exited the vehicle and entered another car which followed him onto the pitch before driving back out the stadium and escaping.

Security reported that the men knocked down the gate from the car park” then broke through the railings along the edge of the pitch.

Police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the incident.
