Fmr. Minister of Health Dr. Fuad Khan: Violent Porn consumption driving violence against girls and women in T&T

Former health Minister Dr. Fuad Khan says that the significant consumption of violent pornography in Trinidad and Tobago is part of the reason for the increase in violence against girls and women. Research has shown an increase in porn consumption globally with lock down and restriction forced millions to stay home which was the catalyst for increased porn consumption.

Dr. Khan spoke to Izzso media about the issue. he said in most cases the type of sexual activity depicted in porn included a dangerous mixture of violence, supression and domination of women. Dr. Khan said this is manifesting in an increase in ‘pornography induced male erectile dysfunction’. This he said because the excessive viewing of this type of porn conditions the men to expect the same type of unrealistic, violence and in some instances sadistic behaviours from their partners.

He also said the phenomenon also tragically included the fact that many children during the pandemic are also left at home unsupervised with access to porn sites. In some instances they even try to mimic the behaviours they see in these videos, and see make the videos themselves. This he said is a dangerous development that needs to be urgently addressed by the authorities.

Dr. Khan also said that cable television has been a significant contributor to the shifts in mores and norms in our society, particularly on young impressionable minds.
