Flooding and thundershowers in PoS – no end to town’s flooding woes

Every rainy season persons buzzing in and around the country’s capital City will one way or the other be trapped by flooding.

Whether it’s one hour or ten minutes of rain Port-of-Spain will have its share of being given a full bath.

Besides the streets being impassable, the situation causes an even bigger issue; rodents, which have plagued Port-of-Spain for years.

Meanwhile back in 2017/2018 the Ministry of Works and Transport launched a flood mitigation initiative.

The announcement to install water pumps in the City at strategic locations was made by Works Minister, Rohan Sinanan just after Port of Spain was left submerged.

The Office of Diaster Preparedness and Management of T&T issued the following bulletin.

The ODPM wishes to advise the public of flood waters in Downtown Port of Spain (South Quay, Charlotte Street) and Tragarete Road, Port of Spain. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution or use alternative routes. Avoid intentionally driving or walking through flood waters. @news.gov.tt
