Kirk Waithe of Fixin T&T has suggested that the actions and comments by Police Commissioner Gary Griffith have helped fuel the increase in police killings.
This as statistics indicate that the number of people killed by police in the last year has risen by 86 percent.
A count by the Guardian newspaper has indicated that 43 people have already been killed by the police.
The killings stem from 32 shooting incidents between January and June and have occurred mainly in the North Eastern Division.
According to the Guardian, the statistics also show a 60 percent increase in police-related killings between 2018 and 2019.
Waithe was with Morvant residents on Monday as they protested Saturday’s police killings of three men identified as Joel Jacob, Israel Clinton and Noel Diamond.
The trio was shot dead by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Guard and Emergency Branch.
Waithe, speaking with Power 102’s Power Breakfast Show this morning, pointed to Police Commissioner Gary Griffith as a key influencer in the uptick in police shootings.
