Five men arrested, two firearms and marijuana seized in Barataria

Five men were arrested when two firearms and a quantity of marijuana were seized during an anti-crime exercise, which was conducted between 1 pm and 5 pm yesterday in Barataria.

During the exercise, officers received information then proceeded to Valley Drive, Morvant, where a search warrant was executed and 355 grammes of marijuana was found and seized.

A 38-year-old man of Upper 6th Avenue Malick, Barataria was arrested in connection with the find.

Another search warrant was executed at Upper 6th Avenue Malick, Barataria where 292 grammes of marijuana was found and seized, a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with this find.

The officers then proceeded to 1st Panchoo Lane, Boundary Road, San Juan, where a search warrant was executed for firearms and ammunition.

A search was conducted and one Ruger pistol and 16 rounds of nine- millimetre ammunition along with one 357 Derringer pistol, ten rounds of .38 ammunition and one round of .357 ammunition were found and seized.

Police arrested two men from Barataria and another man of Boundary Road, San Juan in connection with the find.

The exercise was spearheaded by Ag/ACP Andy Belfon, Ag/Snr Supt Winston Maharaj, ASP Pariman, coordinated by Insp Bahrath, supervised by Ag/Sgt Mitchell and included members of the NED Gang Unit, Ag/Sgt Quashie and officers of the NED Task Force, Morvant CID and Canine Unit.

Investigations are continuing.
