Fisherman granted bail of $40,000 for hitting woman in face

Ron Paul 33, of Beetham Gardens, was arrested and charged for malicious wounding on Tuesday.

He appeared before Magistrate Antoine at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was granted bail with surety in the sum of $40,000.00 or a cash alternative of $4000.00.

He was also ordered to stay 100 metres away from the victim.

The incident allegedly occurred at the victim’s home on Tuesday.

The accused, who was visiting at the time, became annoyed with the victim during an argument.

He allegedly dealt her several blows to her face with his hands, causing a wound over her left eye.

A report was made by the victim and officers responded shortly after.

The accused attempted to flee, but was caught and arrested by the officers at the scene and taken to the Besson Street Police Station.

The victim was taken for medical treatment at the Port of Spain General Hospital and referred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU).

The matter was adjourned to August 27th 2020
