Firearms, Ammunition and Drugs Seized in Exercises

Two firearms and quantities of ammunition and marijuana were seized by officers during multiple anti-crime exercises conducted
across several Divisions Thursday into Friday morning.

In the latest exercise, officers of the Western Division’s Special Patrol Unit and Carenage Police Station, conducted an exercise
between 1:30 am and 3:30 am, today, Friday 5th July, 2024, during which they proceeded to the Carenage district.

There they conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of one revolver hidden under some bushes.

Meanwhile, in the Southern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise around 10 pm on Thursday 4th July, 2024, during which they intercepted a silver Nissan Tiida motor vehicle, with a male driver in the California district.

A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding one pistol loaded with a revolver containing five rounds of ammunition.

The driver, a 28-year-old of Arima, was arrested in connection with the find.

In the South Western Division, an Operation Safe Streets exercise was conducted in the Penal and Oropouche districts between 8 pm on July 3rd, 2024 and 1 am on July 4th, 2024.

During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at the Penal home of a male suspect, which resulted in the discovery of 10
packets of marijuana weighing approximately 4.5 kilogrammes, along with a camouflage uniform.

Two suspects, a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman who were in the house at the time of the exercise, were arrested in
connection with the finds.

Another marijuana discovery was made in the Tobago Division by officers conducting an exercise around 2:15 am, today, in the Signal
Hill area.

During the exercise, the officers stopped and searched a male suspect which resulted in 1.5 kilogrammes of marijuana being
discovered in his possession.

Investigations are ongoing into all of the above finds.

Meanwhile, officers of the Criminal Investigations Department/ Criminal Record Office’s Immigration Investigative Unit South,
conducted an intelligence-led operation between 10 am and 1:45 pm, on Thursday 4th July, 2024, during which they proceeded to
several locations in the Southern Division.

As a result of their searches, the officers arrested five Venezuelan nationals, who are suspected of being in the country illegally.

The four women and one man, ages 19 to 42, were handed over to Immigration Division personnel for further investigations.
