Fire Fighters criticised for late response to UWI fire

Fire fighters are being criticised for their response time to a fire at the Administration building at the University of the West Indies last night.

The extent of damage and losses has not yet been revealed but UWI officials have confirmed that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Deputy Principal Prof Indar Ramnarine said officials noticed smoke coming from the building just after 7 pm.

He said workers at the building alerted security guards, who then alerted the fire services and police.

Videos of the fire, taken by students, which were shared online and quickly went viral, appeared to indicate the fire may have been electrical.
