Fire officers are currently at Massy Stores in Arima after they were called to put out a fire that began in building’s storage room. Although they were able to contain the blaze, parts of the nearby Royal Castle outlet were also damaged.
Around 1:00am this morning, fire officers got a call about a fire at the Ridgewood Plaza Branch of Massy Stores. The fire quickly spread to the main area, and continued towards Royal Castle. The fast food restaurant is said to also have suffered structural damage since firemen had to break a glass window to enter the building.
Arima Mayor, Lisa Morris Julien, is advising motorists to refrain from using Hollis Avenue in St. Joseph in light of ongoing firefighting efforts. She confirmed that employees of the affected branch will be integrated at other store locations.
Fire officials are said to be combing the scene for clues to determine what caused the fire.
