UPDATE: Female police officer shot by Sergeant husband

A female police officer is warded in a critical condition at hospital this morning after being shot by her common-law husband at their Penal home. The suspect is a police sergeant.

On Tuesday night, the couple – 48-year old Dale Ramroop and 29-year old Nicolette Persad – got into an argument after they returned home from a party in Palmiste, San Fernando. Sources say the couple may have argued over a text message.

The sergeant then used his revolver and shot his wife twice in the chest.

Officers were called in and Ramroop was arrested and taken to the police station.

Persad was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Both Ramroop and Persad are attached to the Southern Police Division. Persad is a police constable.

Police recovered two guns and over 60 rounds of ammunition at the scene.

Ramroop is assisting police with their investigations.
