Off duty female officer 31 year old Jewel Wharton Prescott was shot in the abdomen and hand around 10:30pm Saturday night. Reports are that the off duty officer was one of several people traveling in a car
in Malabar travelling east along Lennox Yearwood Carriageway, in the vicinity of Bellbird Avenue when a vehicle pulled alongside and the occupants suddenly opened fire.
The officer was shot in addition to another passenger 36-year-old Ayanna Mc Eachnie-Attle who was also shot in the leg. The driver rushed them to the Arima hospital then transferred to Mount Hope where they are both warded.
This is the forth shooting in the Malabar area in the past few days. Another police officer assigned to the North Eastern Division Emergency Response Patrol was also shot during a robbery in the Pinto district of Arima on Saturday.
Police are yet to determine a motive for the shooting and investigations are continuing.
