Fayann Lyons-Alvarez: Roy Cape left legacy of ‘brass’ music for bands

Fayann Lyons – Alvarez says she remembers Roy Cape fondly.

She made the comment this morning while speaking on the Power Breakfast Show.

Dr Roy Cape passed away yesterday at the age of 82.

Lyons –Alvarez  said that she knew him since she was a child.

Her mother and father both sang in tents and she was exposed to the music and the culture from a very young age.

She said that “Pappy” as he was affectionately known left a legacy of live music which is a dying art.

She explained ‘brass’ sound that had become synonymous with Roy Cape All Stars is something her band still holds on to today.
