Father, son charged for sexually assaulting a minor

A father and son will both appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate today jointly charged with a series of sexual offences against a female minor.

In a TTPS media release the men, ages 57 and 29 respectively, who both reside in Macoya, were charged on November 26th by WPC Alleyne of the Northern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU).

The two were arrested in connection to a report made by a 14-year-old girl that she was assaulted by two men known to her.

In the first case, the girl told the investigator that her next door neighbour would come over to her home to assist her bedridden relative.

During that time, the 57-year-old man would sexually assault her.

The girl eventually confided to her friend’s mother about the alleged acts and a report was subsequently made to the CPU.

WPC Alleyne conducted further enquiries where it was revealed that the girl was made to endure three years of abuse.

Police arrested the man who was later charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a minor and two counts of sexual touching of a minor.

In the second case, the investigator also discovered that the man’s son was allegedly assaulting the girl.

Police learnt that whenever the child stayed away from school, the next door neighbour would invite her to come over to his home.

During that time, he would sexually assault her. This occurred over a one-year period.

A manhunt was launched for the 29-year-old suspect who was eventfully arrested and charged with ten counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

The duo will be made to answer to the charges when the matter comes up for hearing at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court, today, Friday 27th November, 2020.

The investigation was supported by W/Supt (Ag.) Natasha George ASP (Ag) Sookdeo and supervised by Insp (Ag) Baptiste.
