Energy Ministry gets TT$30M to transition to renewable energy from the European Union

The European Union in T&T announce that Trinidad and Tobago has received TT$30m from the EU’s GCCA+ programme to fund its transition to renewable energy.

The EU made the announcement via their Facebook page, that the funds will be used to install solar energy systems in public utilities and remote communities and a solar park at the Piarco International Airport.

According to the Union, the funds will also be used to assist the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries with the development of a renewable energy and energy efficiency policy and be used for public awareness campaign.

It is hoped that this support will help the country to achieve its commitments under the #ParisAgreement and its national policy target of 10% total electricity from renewable sources by 2021.
