Energy Minister confirms explosion at NiQuan plant, assures safety of residents

Energy Minister Franklin Khan has confirmed that an explosion did in fact take place in the Pointe-a-Pierre area this morning.

Khan told Power 102 Fm’s Power Breakfast Show the explosion took place at 6:30am on the recently opened NiQuan GTL plant at the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

No fatalities have been reported, although several persons notified police that the explosion caused their homes to violently shake.

Additionally, no nearby housing settlements seem to have been affected.

NiQuan Energy’s Gas to Liquids plant at Pointe-à-Pierre was officially opened by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley last month.
