The Emancipation Support Committee is suggesting that consideration be given to introducing the history behind Emancipation Day celebrations.
It is calling for this to be introduced in the present education system.
ESC President, Kafra Kambon, made the recommendation while addressing the opening of the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Friday.
Mr Kambon appealed for local school text books to include information pertaining to Emancipation Day, the significance of it and the contribution made.
Mr Kambon warned many of the nation’s young people are going astray because they are not benefiting from a sense of who they are and the input they can make to society.
