Elderly woman’s decomposing body found at her Couva home

The decomposing body of an elderly woman was found in Couva yesterday.

Around 5:45 pm, relatives of 62-year-old Carolyn Lewis Omar of Nasir Trace in Preysal Village, went to visit the woman and upon arriving, detected a foul stench.

After making failed attempts to gain entry into the locked house, they contacted the police.

A team of officers responded and forced their way into the home where they found the woman lying motionless on her back in one of the rooms.

The district medical officer was notified, and he made pronouncements before ordering the removal of the body from the scene.

While police do not suspect foul play, as the home did not appear to be ransacked, due to the condition in which the body was found, a post-mortem was ordered to officially determine the cause of death in keeping with the investigatory process.
