Elderly man burns in house fire set by bandits

Bandits robbed and burnt the home of a 77-year-old man in Chaguanas yesterday, trapping and killing Ramdeo Mahadeo Ragoo in the process.

The incident took place around 11am yesterday at the Bridel Road, Jerningham Junction Road, Endeavour home.

According to a GML report, the deceased man’s daughter, Nalinee Samaroo, claimed that the family has been involved in a dispute over land and yesterday’s attack was the third on the family.

She said an attempt was made to torch the house in 2018 and again on Monday. That fire was quickly extinguished by her husband Mahase Samaroo.

However yesterday, it was reported that two men entered the house and proceeded to rob members of the family before setting the house ablaze.

Their father was unable to walk and also had eye issues and was unable to escape.
