Education Ministry Moves To Expand Model For Addressing School Violence

The Ministry of Education is moving to expand its model in plans to address school violence.

Under the revised structure, Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadsby Dolly, said a team work approach will be adopted moving forward.

Minister Gadsby Dolly said reliance will not be on penalising students but giving them the support that is required.

Speaking at a news briefing held at the Ministry’s St Vincent Street, Port of Spain Head Office today, Minister Gadsby Dolly said in some cases the Ministry has been able to identify repeat offenders and the aim is to work with other stakeholders to formalise stronger arrangements and collaboration to tackle the issue.

Responding to a question on whether there was need for more social workers, Minister Gadsby Dolly admitted there was also need for additional employees in this area but said being practical and reasonable must be taken into account.
