Finance and economics expert Rishi Maharaj is calling for economic recovery plans, aside from a reliance on oil and gas, to be put forward ahead of today’s National Budget presentation.
He made the comment while speaking on Power 102 Digital this morning.
Maharaj stated that diversification was becoming more and more necessary given the country’s diminishing oil and gas returns.
However Mr Maharaj claimed that any serious attempt at diversification can only be done through serious stakeholder discussions.
Noting that the failure to diversify is affecting the country’s lack of foreign exchange, he said that there must be meaningful consultation as the Government cannot successfully plot a way forward on its own given the global challenges posed by the pandemic.
