Tobago’s ECCE and Primary school students to receive lunch from Wednesday

The Division of Education, Innovation and Energy said that it will begin to provide meals to primary and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) students from Wednesday, October 7.

This Division said the move is in keeping with its mandate to provide healthy meals to students throughout Tobago.

Initial data received from principals suggest that 3400 Primary and ECCE students require meals.

Efforts are being made to gather additional information in areas where students were not originally captured in the data collection process.

Data for secondary schools are still being collated and those students will receive meals at a later date.

Schools and multipurpose facilities will serve as collection centres for students whose parents have indicated an interest in receiving meals.

The list of students and the assigned centres will be sent to all principals for dissemination to the parents with children in their schools.

Food Service Officers attached to the School Nutrition Unit have visited distribution centres to ensure that the facilities meet the required safety standard.

All stipulated health protocols are in place and include social distancing, entrance and exit signage as well as hand sanitizers.

Parents are expected to collect meals between the hours of 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The Division said that parents who have not yet indicated an interest in receiving meals for their children are asked to contact the school’s principal to have their names included.
