EBC further extends validity of expired ID Cards

All identification cards issued by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), which are currently expired or due to expire in 2021, will now be valid until December 31, 2021.

This extension of the expiry date of identification cards is instituted in accordance with Registration Rules 31 (5) and (6) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01 and is yet, a further extension to that, which was implemented in December, 2020.

The EBC said this additional extension has become necessary largely as a result of the ongoing requirements of public health regulations and its effects on the Commission’s operations and will:

* Facilitate those persons who are unable, at this time, to make an appointment to renew their expired ID cards due to the temporary closure of the EBC’s Call Centre;

* Manage the number of persons visiting all offices to ensure health and safety considerations under the current Pandemic.

The EBC is mindful that there are institutions and agencies, which appear not have been aware of past legally established extensions and have refused to accept these ID cards. The EBC reminds all persons that these ID cards are valid and should be accepted when presented by members of the public.

Please visit our website at www.ebctt.com for information on the resumption of appointments to renew expired ID cards as well as a listing of the telephone contacts and procedure for renewals.
