East POS man escapes death after gunmen fire on his vehicle in Belmont

Belmont police are continuing investigations into a shooting on Thursday afternoon, which almost took the life of one man.

Reports state that the man, from East Port of Spain, was in his brown Nissan Tiida on Vincent Brown Street in Gonzales, Belmont at around 12:10 pm when gunmen in a gold Nissan Tiida, a black Nissan X-Trail and a gold Toyota Hilux drove up to him and shot at his car.

The man sped off onto Thornhill Street nearby but crashed his vehicle into a light pole and again into a parked Hyundai Tucson, causing his car to flip on its side.

The driver crawled out through the broken windscreen and ran away and was taken to hospital by a passer-by.

Officers of the Port of Spain Task Force visited the scene and secured the area

Officers found five 5.56 spent shells and a live round of ammunition at the scene.
