Duke says Tobago can expect almost nothing from ‘penny pinching’ government in Budget

Watson Duke has described the current government as “penny pinchers” and is predicting that Tobago will get “almost nothing” when the 2021 fiscal package is read next Monday.

In an interview with The Morning Brew, the THA Minority Leader called the Rowley-led administration “misers of the nation’s treasury” and said Tobagonians will get almost nothing and then come back and they would say they are satisfied with the budget.”

He said what Tobago needs at this time is up to 2 billion dollars in capital expenditure, as he claims that what the people of Tobago want to see is development.

“We want to see a development budget that actually develops Tobago. Every year they are giving Tobago 250 million dollars, what can that do?”
He suggested that more than that figure is used to fund one project in Trinidad.
“That is an insult,” he said.

Duke also suggested that more be placed on health and education as well as different aspects of agriculture.
Last budget, Tobago received 2.283 billion dollars.
