Duke convicted of making a false fire report; sentencing on April 26

Public Services Association (PSA) president Watson Duke will be sentenced on April 26, after he was convicted on Thursday of making a false fire report.

Duke, who is also leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) was found guilty of making or causing a false report to be made to fire officials at the Arima Fire Station by deliberately tripping off a fire alarm at the Arima Borough Corporation during a protest action in 2017.

Appearing virtually before Magistrate Avion Gill, Duke, who had previously pleaded not guilty to the offence, was found liable.

Duke remains out on bail and according to reports, he has given instructions to his attorneys to appeal the conviction.
