Dr Tim Gopeesingh: “PNM should have continued what we started to fix school violence!”

Former Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh says the high level of student violence is concerning.

He says that parents are now concerned for the safety of their children not only when they’re at school but also when they journey to and from school.

Dr Gopeesingh said that the Peoples Partnership Government left 22 policies in 2015 some of which were geared toward addressing school violence.

He said that the solutions were arrived at following consultations with some 5000 stakeholders including workshop for parents, increasing Student Support Services, implementing hand held scanners at problematic schools, ramping up CCTV cameras and increased police presence among other solutions.
