Dr Terrence Farrell: Feel free to disagree with constitutional report but let it be based on principle

Almost by definition a constitutional reform exercise if done with integrity is going to make recommendations for changing the balance of power in the society, and this is not in the interest of those who presently hold power.

This is the view of Dr Terrence Farrell who spoke with the Power Breakfast Show this morning.

Dr Farrell is part of the National Advisory Committee on Constitutional Reform.

At a recent PNM rally certain aspects of the report were rejected by Government officials, Dr Farrell proffered an explanation for this revealing that recommendations by the Committee may not align with the vision of those in power.

Dr Farrell said people are free to share their concerns.

He said this also goes for the recommendations rejected by the PNM’s Constitution Review Committee, including fixed dates for elections, proportional representation, and reformation of sexual orientation rights.
