Dr. Hazel Othello asks the public not to be dismissive of persons who may suffer from ‘COVID fatigue’

We should not be dismissive of persons who act or voice opinions contrary to that of the advice given by health professionals, as they may be suffering from what is now known as COVID fatigue.

This refers to persons who are now mentally or even physically fatigued due to the new conditions under which we are being forced to live.

The Health Ministry’s Mental Health Director, Dr Hazel Othello, gave the explanation while speaking at the Ministry’s COVID briefing this morning.

She explained that after several months of dealing with the pandemic, persons may now experience intense emotions of frustration and hopelessness which may cause them to engage in self-destructive behaviour.

She warned however that while COVID fatigue is real, persons must still force themselves to realise that their self-destructive behaviour can have an effect on those around them.
