DPP Orders Inquest Into Death Of San Juan Man

An inquest has been ordered into the death of 50-year-old Nigel Bernard Welch, which occurred on January 4^th, 2023.

The instruction was given to investigators on Monday, January 16^th by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.

Welch, of Laventille Road, San Juan, was at Pritzgar Road, on Tuesday, January 3^rd when he allegedly had an altercation with another man over money.

During the incident Welch received a wound to the back of the head.

Police reports state he was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment however, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries the following day.

A male suspect, who had been held by police in connection with the matter was released on January 16^th on the advice  of the DPP.
