Diesel and batteries stolen from Beetham generator led to sewerage issue

Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales says theft of batteries and fuel from the generator which was pulling the waste water from Beetham out of the area led to the overflow of sewerage water in the community.

He made the startling revelation while speaking this morning on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show.

The Beetham residents blocked the highway and bus route 2 weeks ago after sewer water flooded the streets and flowed into people’s homes.

However Minister Gonzales noted that WASA was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in diesel on a weekly basis to keep generators operational but they were constantly being sabotaged.

He concluded that the protests were spurred on by politics.
