Deyalsingh: Population has not stepped up in the fight against dengue!

The citizenry has not stepped up to the plate in the fight against the dengue virus.

This is the view of the Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh who was speaking at the Ministry of Health’s media conference earlier this morning.

Minister Deyalsingh noted that so far 441 notices have been issued to homeowners who were found to be in breach of the Ministry’s guidelines on keeping a mosquito free environment.

He maintained that the primary responders in the fight against the increase of the mosquito population are the homeowners.

The Minister responded to a question concerning the responsibility of the Health Ministry and regional corporations in spraying for the mosquitoes throughout various communities.

He said that Insect vector informed him that spraying whilst it is done on a rotational basis, every three to four months, is not done indiscriminately.

Instead they concentrate resources in a geographic locality around a house where there is a confirmed case to break the chain of transmission.

This is done for very specific reasons.
