Detention pond for flooding woes in Arouca, says Lopinot MP

Member of Parliament for Lopinot\ Bon Air West, Marvin Gonzales, cites unplanned and illegal development as one of the factors contributing to flooding in the constituency.

Speaking on Power 102’s Power Breakfast Show, the Public Utilities Minister also indicated what will be done to address the development.

“The drainage division together with the regional corporation, we’re looking at the whole idea of putting down a detention pond to trap the body of water that’s coming down the hill (so) that it can be released slowly into the water channels so as the avoid the flooding that is being experienced by the constituents.”

He said they have detected five areas in the Five Rivers and Arouca area that might benefit from detention ponds, adding that the engineers from the drainage division and the regional corporation continue to explore other sites in the area.
