The police service must be fixed first if you really want to address crime.
This is the comment from Criminologist Ramesh Deosaran who says that there are too many deficiencies in the police service which need to be rectified that has a direct correlation to the increased criminal activity in the country.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning Professor Deosaran said that the weakness in the entry qualifications contribute to corruption in the police service.
He maintained another issue is the length of time it takes to put in place a Commissioner of Police.
He said nowhere else in the world does it take over a year to appoint a Police Commissioner.
He noted fundamental improvements in protective agencies are important to solving issues related the crime.
