Death of cancer patient at Cedros Health Center reportedly under investigation by SWRHA

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of a cancer patient at the Cedros Health Centre.

Relatives of Kumar Ganness said that they took him to the health centre on Sunday morning with an oxygen saturation of 77.

One man, identified as Haman, who claimed to be Ganness’ brother, wrote on social media that when they got the oxygen tanks, one out of the 2 large oxygen tanks would not open and the other exploded.

He said if “everything was in proper working condition” his brother “might of had a fighting chance to be alive today.”

The man said an investigation is needed into why there is no proper maintenance on oxygen tanks and medical equipment.

The South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) is said to be looking into the matter.

Cedros councillor Shankar Teelucksingh, said he is calling immediately on the Minister of Health to intervene in this situation, “where we are seeing problems of lack of maintenance of our health centres and availability of equipment for emergency response as first responders to save lives and to stabilise the patients to transfer for secondary health care which is in our general hospitals.”
