David Lee criticizes Paria for funding community project while failing to help families of dead divers

Pointe-a-Pierre MP David Lee has levelled criticism against the Paria Fuel Trading Company for its partnership with an NGO.

Paria recently announced that it has teamed up with Pennacool.com for a book donation drive and an online learning platform.

However, in a media release today, Lee says Paria is boasting of its corporate responsibility but is failing to help the families of the divers who died in the pipeline tragedy in February 2022.

He said: “It is an insult to the taxpayers of this nation that Paria’s General Manager Musthaq Mohammed could boast that this latest partnership “aligns perfectly with the corporate responsibility of Paria” when Paria, owned by the taxpayers, continues to ignore the financial devastation that these families have faced after losing their loved ones.”

The MP adds that if Paria’s board had the corporate social responsibilities it has boasted of, it would have supported the divers’ families “from the very start.”

MP Lee noted however, that his statement is not an attack against the entity that was sponsored by Paria, “as are happy for their contribution to society,” but this is a rebuke of the constant pappy show that Paria’s Board and Management continue to put on in the public.
