Comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage yesterday during a performance.
Videos shared on social media showed a man running on stage and tackling Chappelle as he performed at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Chappelle was apparently unharmed as videos showed him returning to the stage after the incident.
The comedian then made light of the controversy, suggesting to the audience that the attacker “was a trans man”.
His comment was a reference to the criticism and protests he faced last year when his Netflix special was accused of being transphobic.
Chappelle was later joined on stage by fellow comic Chris Rock – who was slapped on stage by Will Smith at the Oscars in March – and actor and singer Jamie Foxx.
