Dancehall artiste Mavado $30 million fraud case against former attorney pushed to September

Disbarred attorney Jennifer Messado is to go on trial on September 12 in connection with allegations that she defrauded dancehall entertainer Mavado more than $30 million in a real estate transaction.

The trial date was set today when Messado appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for a plea and case management hearing.

However the case was delayed again on Thursday and has been pushed back to September 29.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was scheduled to submit an application seeking approval from the court for Mavado, who lives in the US, to give testimony via video link.

However, approval can only be granted if Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, has no outstanding warrants in Jamaica.

Oswest Senior Smith told DancehallMag that the Office of the DPP has now received an adjournment to review the application in order to get some additional information,”

In 2018, the Constant Spring Police had issued a notice on for Mavado, to report to the police station by midday the following day.
