Cumuto MP donates Christmas hampers; says gov’t not meeting the needs of differently-abled

Dr.Rai Ragbir, Member of Parliament for Cumuto Manzanilla says “I am not convinced that the Government is sufficiently reaching out to meet the needs of differently-abled children in the country”.

Ragbir said he was overcome with emotions when he saw the mother of a Cerebral Palsy child struggling to lift her child as she attended a toy distribution drive in the Fishing Pond area of Cumuto Manzanilla, earlier today, Sunday December 13th 2020.

He lamented, “the sight of a mother having to physically carry such a child, without the help of a specially designed wheelchair, cannot be left unattended, and therefore as the MP I will personally seek to find a resolution to this kind of human neglect”.

Dr.Rai said even after the Christmas period he would use his office as a Member of Parliament to reach out to those Differently Abled children in the constituency, especially the indigent and vulnerable in remote and rural communities.

He further noted, “the multitude of needs of both the parent and the afflicted child cannot be solved with the mere payment of a disability grant at the end of the month; it requires so much more, and the Government has done very little to address the acute needs of these families”.

The Cumuto Manzanilla MP, together with a Corporate Citizen, distributed over 100 food hampers and an equal amount of toys to parents and children in the Fishing Pond area.
Those in attendance included single mothers, the elderly, the indigent, the vulnerable, and the differently-abled.
