Crimonologist: Drug trade resposible for spike in murders!

The illicit drug trade is responsible for the spike in murders in Trinidad and Tobago.

This is the view of Criminologist Darius Figuera.

He says that this is not the first time that T&T has experienced a spike in murders due to the drug trade.

He says that blame has been laid elsewhere however he believes that transnational organised crime is the real culprit.

Trinidad and Tobago has experienced a rise in numbers this year as the murder rate has passed 500 and may be heading toward 600 by year’s end.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102 Digital this morning Figura said that the drug trade is what has been responsible for the increased murder rate.

He maintained that there has been a dramatic change in the business model as it pertains to transnational organised crime.

He said that this must be understood to fight the problem effectively.

He said the Mexican business model on illicit drugs appear rto have been adopted in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean.
