Food vendors and restaurants are being warned to follow all health protocols, or face being shut down.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith issued the warning on Monday, hours after food establishments re-opened.
The Commissioner said there has also been an immediate increase in police foot patrols, as a result of the amendments to allow for food sales and outdoor activities.
He said: “I have directed in certain cases, where there is a high volume of roadside vending, restaurants and where persons participate in outdoor exercising for there to be increased police foot patrols to ensure that food vendors and establishments that sell food, they play their part and ensure that persons do not consume meals on the premises and vendors ensure that customers are distanced.”
“Failure to do this, I do have the authority to shut down those places under section 133 of the Public Health Regulations.”
The Commissioner added, “Police patrols would also resume to monitor areas where persons may congregate to exercise and this will be done both to ensure the safety of these citizens and also to ensure that they remain in groups of five or less.”
